Why You Should Not Buy an Electric Vehicle
By Arnav, Year 7, Melbourne (Australia)
You should not buy an Electric Vehicle because they are not truly eco-friendly, they cost a lot to upgrade to, and they do not have the same styling as any other cars on the road. All your life, you have been told that Electric Vehicles, also known as EVs, are truly eco-friendly. Do you want to live with the thought that the car in your house has ruined the lives of little kids? Today is the day you find out about these horrible slabs of metal with a battery and four wheels.

Imagine a world where every choice you make impacts the future – not just for you, but for generations to come. The decisions we make today, from the products we buy to the way we travel, shape the planet we will leave behind. One of the biggest decisions facing us now is how we move from place to place. You’ve probably heard the buzz about electric vehicles (EVs) being the solution to climate change, but is that really the case? Before you jump on the EV bandwagon, let’s take a deeper look at the facts and question whether these vehicles are truly green, cost-effective, and stylish as they claim to be. Buckle up, because what you’re about to discover might change the way you think about the future of driving.

When you think of an EV, you see this futuristic car that is eco-friendly. That is not the case. We humans tend to miss out on small but important things that may have a larger effect than we think. For example, look at these factories below. Think about how many trees had to be destroyed just to make this singular factory. Think about the poor little animals that have lost their homes. Is this what we call eco-friendly? And also take a second to look at what this factory has created! An animal has lost its home just to make this car that looks like it was made for a three-year-old.

In today's world, it is becoming increasingly important to dig deeper into the topic because nowadays, things don't seem as they are. I want you to take a second to think, “What are batteries even made of?” Well, the true answer is lithium. Lithium may sound cool to say, but when you are driving down the road and you see an EV blow up, you might second-guess it.

One of the most pressing issues is the styling of the car. I find it very important to drive around in a car where I feel like the king of the road, but when I sit in an EV, I feel like I am in a new world that is just gray. For example, look at the Tesla Model X vs. the BMW X6. Now tell me, what looks better? Now it is time to talk about the true feeling of a car: the engine! The X6 has a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 fitted with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that is connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This outstanding beast of a car has a fascinating 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque! Now time for the Tesla. As some of you may know, Teslas are 100% electric. This Tesla has two batteries; battery one has 375 kW at 6150 rpm, 660 Nm. Battery two has 198 kW at 6800 rpm, 330 Nm. So overall, both of these cars are outstanding, but it’s your time to decide: Would you spend money on a car that runs on batteries, or would you go for a manly combustion engine?

In conclusion, it is now up to you whether you want a horrific EV or an outstanding combustion engine car that will make you feel important in your life. Now is the time to make your decision because this will determine the future of humanity and, most importantly, your kids! Think again: Is this what you want?
