Schools Should Allow Students to Choose Their Own Seats in Class

By Aarush, Year 4, Hamilton (Australia)

Students these days are constantly arguing to sit next to their best friends. What if we established some rules around this? I strongly believe that students have their own perspectives on what may seem like childish issues. So, teachers, sit back, relax, and enjoy these reasons.

Astonishingly, some people don’t realise that students can manage themselves. They can handle pressure and, of course, compromise with one another. Just place best friends together, and they will focus—teachers, it’s not that hard! Just let them do what they want, and boom, your wish is granted; they may now concentrate. So, how would you feel knowing they’re now engaged?

Yet another fantastic aspect of sitting next to each other is that you want your students to feel comfortable, and comfort translates to achieving good grades at school, right? This way, they can answer questions accurately. Well, here’s a thought: a person's seating position can help maintain good posture. So, if you do that, you’ve just won the golden ticket to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Lastly, I would tell you that 70% of teachers place their students next to each other so they can concentrate and perform better, while 30% of teachers don’t allow their students to sit where they prefer. I mean, that’s just odd! How would you feel if you couldn’t stay with your best friend? That would make you sad, right?

To sum it up, I recommend that students should sit wherever they want so they can achieve better grades and receive a higher quality education.
