The Case of the Missing Homework

By Vishruth, Grade 5, Perth (Australia)

"Another boring day at school," yawned Alex.

At the end of school, his teacher gave out homework. Alex thought it was going to be a piece of cake, so he relaxed the whole weekend without doing his homework. Luckily, on Monday he didn’t have school because of a public holiday, so he played ROBLOX with his friends. Alex felt sad since he had to go to school the next day and woke up early. To do that, he had to go to bed early. Alex realized that he hadn’t done his homework, so he tried to find it quickly and do it, but first, he had to find it. First, Alex checked the obvious spots, but it wasn’t there. Then he checked the unexpected spots. He asked his dog, Gummy, to help, so they had limited time to find it before his dad got angry like his dog for chewing the newspaper.

Gummy wanted to eat his dad’s newspaper, but he did not like getting in trouble. So, he searched for something else to chew, and it was what Alex had been looking for the entire time. His dad wouldn’t be happy with a “C” for his grades for homework, even though he had sat with Alex the whole time and finally trusted him. When Alex found the homework on the floor with bite marks, he was really annoyed. He couldn’t get a new paper since his grades depended on it, and then he’d never be trusted by not only his parents but also his friends and teacher because of excuses.

Alex was very angry, but he tried to make it up to Ms. J, the nicest teacher if they did their homework. Alex sprinted to get a piece of paper, wrote an apology, and tried to do his best work on the paper. Alex didn’t want a paper going to his parents, so he already told them to lessen the trouble. Alex was happy everything was sorted but scared for his grades.

1 WEEK LATER

The grades were handed out and... Alex showed his family in excitement. He got an A+ just for his dog to make the frame and an apology. Alex's family was impressed with his work, and Alex was thankful for his parents teaching him for that specific homework.
